Scanning and digital composition

Digitising the world

OBJECTIVES

  • Discover a new way of digitising - the portable scanner - and find ways to use it creatively.
  • Understand the principle of digital data by scanning tangible, analogue and non-digital materials.
  • Let chance and digital “errors” play a role as you create a visual composition.
  • Learn about and practice using image editing software.

WHO’S IT FOR?

Free to attend (registration required).

Maximum number of participants: 10 working in pairs.

From 11 years old.

Some experience of using digital technology required.

DESCRIPTION

Usually reserved for rapidly digitising documents with text, the portable scanner can also digitise printed images and certain flat surfaces. Using it to creative ends produces unexpected results and unique images. We will start by discovering the portable scanner and using it to produce digital images, which in the second part of the workshop will be uploaded and processed on the computer. You cannot see the result immediately when using a portable scanner and so chance plays a key role when using it to create images.
