DESCRIPTION
A theatre of illusions and imagination, the Théâtre des Charmes is both a workshop and a performance, which invites participants to work together on a visual and audio production.
The participants are encouraged to bring to life characters in a story based on John Zorn’s “Theater of Musical Optics”. These characters are represented by small objects (charms) that take on supernatural dimensions when they are projected onto a wall using an Ipevo document camera.
These charms are made during the workshop and can be extremely simple, for example an object cut-out of paper, a small sticker, a pebble, a bottle top, a piece of wood or a screw etc.
Each charm has a designated sound. These sounds are also produced during the workshop using a computer and a portable recording and playback device. In this way the sounds will create a story. Each charm’s specific music is performed during the performance.
This theatre presents music made with objects: more than music made of sounds, it is a music of images, stories and imagination.
